I was SO happy to see this article from UT-Austin, where I received my bachelors degree. I was a student in the College of Liberal Arts in the School of Psychology. Planning to be a therapist and go on to grad school didn’t work out the way I planned and I also really didn’t want to leave Austin. I freaked out, I was stuck.
OH NO. I have a Liberal Arts degree, I’m DOOMED!
Fast forward 20-ish years later, I couldn’t be more proud of my degree and what it’s offered me! Having such a huge background in Psychology (I also got a Masters in Human Services which focused on Psychology and Sociology) and owning my business, working with people one on one is extremely fulfilling. Although I’ve always been a “people person,” understanding the psychology of human beings definitely gives me an edge over other social media consultants.
So, if you have a Liberal Arts degree, DO NOT FRET! Just use those skills to your advantage no matter what field you choose. Employers need more than just a person who’s a master at a particular skill. They also need people who understand people and groups. And who knows? Maybe you’ll start your own business too.
Do you have a Liberal Arts degree? What are you doing with it and where has it helped you in the professional realm?
